Musings of a Happy Husband and Soon to Be Father....

Sarah and my first year of marriage has gone by so quickly, and it has been such an amazing experience, beyond what I ever imagined it would or could be! The Lord has truly given to us far more than we could have ever asked, and I am so unworthy.

Sarah is continually at my side encouraging me, comforting me, challenging me, praying for me, helping me, admiring me, supporting me and I could go on and on with all that she does and is to me and never finish! I will never deserve her love, constant care and devotion, but I thank the Lord for her so very much!

We have had such a blast this first year, spending so much special time together and getting to know each other better, which was totally the desire of my heart when we started out that well remembered May 22nd day in 2010.

We have also been tested and tried in various forms and measures, which the Lord has promised He will do to us, for "He trieth the righteous." And with every trial we have gone through, the Lord has benefited our lives in some special way, and never ceased to draw us closer to Him and to each other, which is our daily prayer. We sincerely know and believe and are so thankful that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord, and it is His will in Christ Jesus our precious Savior, that we should give thanks in everything and for everything!

We are now--by the kindness of our wonderful Lord towards us in answering the prayer of our heart--on the verge of having our own dear child. And oh does it seems so incredible! For so many years I cried out to the Lord on my knees for a family of my own, and He is bringing it to pass! First in giving me my lovely wife Sarah, and and now Praise His great Name, a child of our very own.

We look forward so much to the day in which that little baby which Sarah has been carrying around in her womb all these many months will be born. And we are looking forward also to the many days ahead in which we will have the opportunity to train that little one up in the way that he/she should go, in the ways of our Lord. Having said  that we look forward to that opportunity, I don't say that without first feeling totally inadequate for such a task, but the Bible tells us that we can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth us, and so we move forward with that confidence and faith in Him. We know that He will never let us down, even if we stumble along the way, for "The Lord lifteth up the meek." -Brendan

Whats Been going on With Us!!

Life has been busy, and we have neglected writing anything for a while.
We took a trip down to California in mid March, and to my disappointment it was cold and rainy. We had a sweet time anyway, and had lots of special time to chat, listen to fun music and observe the scenery as we drove along the windy freeway. We are back home now enjoying our cozy little home. Brendan has been doing a lot around the house, as I am now in my third trimester of pregnancy and feeling tired and don't get around to doing a lot of things. He is such a great husband, serving me all day and night!! Morning time is always a wonderful time for me. I wake up totally starving and Brendan gets up and makes the most amazing breakfast I have ever had. He fixes omelets with all sorts of things in them, along with cubed potatoes and sometimes a fruit smoothie. How could I ever be so spoiled!! Our little baby is doing just great, moving all around and getting those cute little hiccups, which we love to feel. On another note, Brendan got everything he needed for our home bakery licensing, and he is now baking lots of the world best scones for some local coffee shops. I wasn't to sure about it at first, cause I don't exactly love all the rules they set for our kitchen, but it is going well now.
The Lord has taught me a lot through this pregnancy about worry and leaving everything with him. I find a new thing to worry about every day (about the baby), and have had to realize that I can do nothing about it except pray, and trust that he has everything in his hand. May the Lord encourage you all out there, and may you know that He cares and wants us to rest totally and completely in Him. -Sarah

A Matter of Faith

I write because I know how valuable God's lessons to me have been regarding faith, and am continually reminded of my own lack of it. I feel just like the children of Israel when they experienced God's miraculous provision in some thing, like the Red Sea deliverance, and in just a matter of days later were complaining that there was no water, and they didn't believe that God was going to supply it for them. How foolish we shortsighted and faithless humans can be! But, God does allow our unbelief to humble us, and remind us that we need to trust Him more.

When Jesus was on the boat with the disciples during the harsh storm in which the disciples thought they were about to perish, He was sleeping in the bottom of the boat on a pillow! He was trusting fully in the Father, and was never moved, storm or no storm. Wow, what an example of faith for us! He declared to the disciples when they called upon Him to save them, "where is thy faith?" Truly, He got to the root of their problem, and it wasn't the storm, it was their lack of faith. It had sprouted wings and flown away. Saints, it is often the same with us.

We are so prone to not look to God in our desperate circumstances, and let the circumstances control our attitude. the the Lord may be saying the same thing to us as He declared to the disciples so long ago, "where is thy faith?"

Faith is alive and well in our hearts when we believe that God is in charge, and will not let anything happen to us which would not be beneficial to us, and in some way be a means to make us more like Jesus. Even when we do and say things we wish we hadn't. In retrospect, faith would believe that God will also turn that around for good. When we exercise this kind of faith, we can then be thankful in everything, and for everything, as the Scripture exhorts us to do in Ephesians and 1st Thess..

Having considered this, I can't help but think that the attitude which we may enjoy while walking by faith would be a joyful one of dependance on Christ, and cheer to others whom He has placed in our lives to minister to. How much would we like to be an encouragement to our brethren? Particular to those closest to us? We will be more than encouraging and will also be filled with His abundant peace that passeth all understanding, if we strive to walk trusting God in everything, and for everything, boldly entering into His presence in believing prayer with the confidence that "with God, all things are possible."  -Brendan

Valentines Day, A Reminder of Romantic Love

"There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not: The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid" (Proverbs 30:18-19). The last item mentioned in this passage, the forth "wonder of the world" may go unnoticed to some, because of it's shortness, and may seem to some even unspiritual, but let us not pass by it before giving it the opportunity to sink into our hearts.

It speaks of that romantic love, which is a gift of God, experienced by a man and a woman whose hearts are knit together. This love is such a beautiful thing that it stands out to the writer of this Proverb (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) as one of the "things which are too wonderful for me."

We who have tasted of that love, enjoying it in God's wonderful and blessed institution of marriage, and have observed it in others, marvel at it's wonderfulness, along with the Proverbial writer. This romantic love is a very important ingredient in marriage. It is the frosting on the cake of oneness, and to be applied often, and there are a lot of opportunities for both husband and wife to show it to each other!

Romantic love is that wonderful feeling in our hearts we enjoy when we get in the presence of our beloved, when we look at each other with adoring eyes, when we hold one another close and whisper sweet and kind things in eachother's ears. It is a heavenly feeling that just grows and grows as we bond together more and more each day.

I will suggest some practical ways for growing this kind of love:

Say "I love you" often.
Serve your spouse in every big and little way you can think of. Be overall helpful, beyond the call of duty!
Be gentle, sweet,  kind and patient, always listening, never forceful and demanding of your own way.
Take time away from the normal routine of the day to do something special for your wife, Husbands.
Be affectionate, even if it means a short squeeze and kiss! This can take place even amongst much busyness!
Write love notes.

There is much more that could be written on this subject, but I believe that these things and many more besides will ignite more of this special love that God has willed for us to enjoy!
Happy Valentines Day! -Brendan

What life is like being pregnant

I am now 18 weeks pregnant with our first baby and we are super excited!! My due date is June 28th. On Tuesday of last week we felt the baby move for the first time, and have been feeling it move every day since. I have a very active baby and it still catches me off guard every time I feel the it bouncing around in there! It has been such an exciting time for us. There are many changes we are getting used to. Like being hungry all the time, having to buy maternity clothes because my normal clothes no longer fit, trying to sleep at night but not having much success due to achy, restless legs (which Brendan so kindly massages for me even in the middle of the night). But regardless of all the aches and hunger pains, the reward will be well worth it all!!

We continue to hang out at our cozy little home, play games together, watch special movies, have daily Bible readings and take our dog for walks. Time will go fast, and we want to make the most of our time together as these will be our last 5 months of just being us (even though we can't wait for the baby to be born).
We will keep you updated. Also, please pray for us and baby over the next 5 months as we prepare for the big day in which it will come into this world, then we will get to meet our precious little blessing :). -Sarah
